Who Do You Love?

Remember those February days in elementary school when the class would decorate a big box with hearts and put a slot in the top?  Classmates would buy bulk packs of those one-sided cards (the cornier the better), address them to their favorite classmates, and drop them in the slot for distribution on Valentine’s Day.   Usually there were cupcakes involved in class too - with pink icing and if you were lucky, rainbow sprinkles.

As new store owners, during this past holiday season, we got to see who gets the most attention when it comes to gift giving.  Mom?  Dad?  Husband?  No way – the answer is pets!  No one wants to forget their pooch during the holiday season and we’re sure that Valentine’s Day will be just as important.   After all, it’s all about the love and sometimes the pets receive more attention than the rest of the family. We hope that all the pets out there, who are obviously well-loved, enjoy rooting for their favorite Philly sports teams this year in their new pet jerseys and collars!

So as you can see, while Valentine’s Day is typically thought of as a day to celebrate your love for your spouse or partner, not all memories of Valentine’s Day have anything at all to do with “true love.” Regardless of whether you will be celebrating with conversation heart candies, fine chocolates, jewelry, a romantic dinner, or a dog’s squeaky toy, may you enjoy the day set aside for expressing your love, and generate some happy memories.

Make Valentine's Day Special

The theme for the song of the quarter this month is love songs.  As one of the most popular topics for songwriters, the choices for song of the quarter were practically "endless".  After much deliberation, we finally decided on "Endless Love" by Lionel Richie, recorded as a duet by Richie and Diana Ross, released in 1981.  It was used as the theme song for the movie "Endless Love" and it remained #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 list for 9 weeks.  Since then, the song has been heard in multiple movies and TV shows, including a duet with Mr. Shoe and Rachel on "Glee".

After writing songs for other artists such as Kenny Rogers, and performing with groups such as the Commodores, the success of Endless Love got Richie started on his successful solo career.
